The first brave touch. A teammate’s encouragement. The smile on the way home. These are the moments that matter.

CELEBRATE

Cheer the effort. Welcome the mistakes. Celebrate the progress. Help every player feel that they belong.

  • LET PLAYERS MAKE DECISIONS

Soccer gives children constant opportunities to choose, try and learn. Give them time to see the game and make their own decisions. A misplaced pass or a lost ball is part of learning. Encourage their effort without calling out a running list of instructions. “Keep trying” helps more than telling them where every pass should go.

  • LET COACHES COACH

Support the team’s coach and give players one clear source of guidance. Different instructions from the sideline can leave children unsure whose voice to follow. If you have a question about your child’s experience, arrange a private conversation through PlayMetrics away from the game. Raise an immediate safety concern straight away with the appropriate Hawks staff member on site.

  • RESPECT THE REFEREE

Referees deserve a safe, respectful environment. Many are young people learning to lead, just as our players are learning to play. Do not shout criticism, heckle, question their integrity or confront them during or after a match. Let the coach handle any appropriate rules questions. Report concerns through the Hawks reporting process so they can be addressed properly.

  • KEEP THE SCORE IN PERSPECTIVE

Competing matters and children can be proud of a good result but the score is only a small part of their season. Notice the brave decision, the improved first touch, the kindness to a teammate and the willingness to try again. After the game, start with “I loved watching you play.” Let your child decide how much more they want to discuss.

How Mini leagues work

Three rounds. Nine scheduled match days. New challenges as the season develops.

We introduced the mini league system to solve a familiar grassroots soccer challenge: giving players games suited to their level without breaking apart the relationships that make community soccer special. Players stay with their teammates, friends and coaches throughout the season; only their group of opponents changes as results help us create closer, more development driven matches.

Round 1

get started

Games 1–3. Teams begin in randomly selected groups of four.

Round 2

FIND THE NEXT CHALLENGE

Games 4–6. Teams are regrouped using results from Round 1 to create more closely matched games.

Round 3

THE FINAL COMPETITION

Games 7–9. Teams enter their final groups based on their results in games 1-6 and compete for their division’s end-of-season honors.

PARENT FAQS

  • Which age division will my child play in?

We follow U.S. Soccer’s age-group guidelines, widely used by youth soccer programs across the country. Your child’s age group is determined by their date of birth and the season they’re registering for.

Use their age-group matrix here to find their division.

You may request for your child to “play up” in an older age group but players cannot “play down” in a younger age group.

  • Can I request a particular coach?

Yes, when you complete your registration you can include a request for a coach.  Coach requests are honoured on a strictly first come first served basis and are not guaranteed.  We believe that at this level children benefits from being able to play with their friends and develop under coaches that have made a positive impact in their lives so we do our best to honour coach requests wherever possible but do stress that due to squad size constraints this is not always possible.

  • How are the teams formed?

We put development, relationships and enjoyment first. Players can request a coach during registration, giving them a chance to reunite with friends or a coach who has made a positive impact. Requests are first come, first served. We make every effort to honour them, but cannot guarantee placement.

Remaining spaces are filled randomly, with one exception: we balance female players across teams based on the number registered in each age division. Coaches cannot request players—requests are a player privilege.

Our mini-league system groups teams by performance, so stronger teams face similarly competitive opponents. This helps keep the season fun and competitive for everyone, whether players are longtime friends or meeting for the first time.

  • When will we hear from our coach?

Team information is released after rosters and practice schedules are finalized. Your head coach will contact you within one week of receiving the team roster. Check your PlayMetrics account and notifications. If you have not heard from your coach, message them directly through PlayMetrics. If that does not resolve it, email communications@springhillsports.com with your player’s name and division.

  • Where can I find our schedule?

Use PlayMetrics for your team’s game and practice information along with any updates.  Make sure to check the date, time and field number before traveling. For player safety, the complete league practice schedule is not public. U6–U14 families should remember only their current round fixtures are published and they should check the new fixtures when each mini-league round is announced after the conclusion of week 3 and week 6).

  • What equipment does my child need?

Registration includes an authentic Adidas jersey, shorts and socks. Players must wear their Hawks uniform and the assigned number as recorded in PlayMetrics. Bring shin guards covered by soccer socks, suitable footwear and a labeled water bottle. Ball sizes are: size 3 for U4–U7, size 4 for U8–U11, and size 5 for U12, U14 and High School. Hawks supplies match balls; ask your coach whether to bring a ball to practice. Casts, supports and braces must be padded in advance and checked by the head referee before the game.

  • How much will my child play?

As a league we expect our coaches to provide meaningful and substantial playing time over the course of each match for every child. Given the number of players and rotating substitutes it is very difficult to ensure “equal” playing time so the target we set our coaches is “fair” playing time; meaning they should have every child aiming to play a reasonably similar amount of time.  Temporary differences may occur because of injury, illness, late arrival, early departure or other exceptional circumstances. This is a per-match expectation, not a promise that lost time will simply be made up later in the season. If you are concerned, speak privately with your coach, one of the on-site Soccer Committee members or reach out to the League through communications@springhillsports.com if the issue remains unresolved.

  • Why do we need a birth certificate and player photograph?

Tennessee State Soccer Association requires these documents to verify each player’s age and identity and establish their record in the state registration system. This helps ensure players participate in the correct age group and supports the issuing of player passes if they later join a club or another program that requires them.

Please upload both documents through PlayMetrics as part of registration. If you need help, contact communications@springhillsports.com.

  • Which age group will my child play in?

Hawks soccer is for children ages 3–18. From Fall 2026, Hawks uses school-year age groups based on August 1–July 31. Enter your child’s birth date in PlayMetrics and it will assign the appropriate division. This generally helps place children with others in the same school grade but division assignment follows the age chart rather than a guarantee about classmates. View the Hawks age-group chart. Contact Hawks before registering if you have a placement question. Requests to play-up an age division will be considered but it is not possible for a player to play-down a division.

  • What happens if an age division is full?

If a waitlist is offered, joining it records your interest but does not confirm a team place. Hawks will contact you if a place becomes available and you will be able to complete your registration from there.

  • What happens in bad weather?

Check PlayMetrics messages and the official field-status update before leaving home. A forecast alone does not confirm a cancellation. Rainouts are rescheduled when possible; replacement games may take place either on one of our scheduled makeup days or on weeknights between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The referee and Soccer Director decide whether a match must be suspended, delayed or terminated in accordance with our weather policy. A weather abandonment before completion of the first half leads to a full replay being scheduled; an abandonment after the first half is complete means that the score at the time of abandonment stands and the remainder of the game is not rescheduled. We try to avoid holiday weekends and school breaks but the league serves several school districts and cannot accommodate every calendar.

  • What if my child’s uniform has not arrived?

Notify your coach through PlayMetrics immediately and certainly before match day, including the missing item and size. Your coach will confirm the approved temporary arrangement with Hawks.

  • Who should I contact with a concern?

For routine team questions, contact your coach privately through PlayMetrics. For registration, account access, uniforms or an unresolved team concern, email communications@springhillsports.com.

  • When and where are practices and games?
Hawks offers co-ed soccer in spring and fall. Games are on Saturdays at Fischer Park, 4285 Port Royal Rd, Spring Hill, TN 37174. Teams have one weeknight practice lasting an hour. Practice days and times depend on field availability and are set in PlayMetrics. Weather make-up games may be scheduled on weeknights between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
  • What if we miss a practice or game?
Let your coach know through marking your attendance in the PlayMetrics app as early as possible. Early notice helps the coach plan activities and game participation. Tell Hawks if you need to withdraw from the season so the team record can be updated.
  • Can we cancel or receive a refund?

    Standard Season Refunds:

Refunds, if provided, will be handled by Spring Hill Sports, LLC and not PlayMetrics.

    1. If a participant withdraws prior to rosters being assigned, a refund will be provided minus a $5 administration fee.
    2. If a participant withdraws after being assigned to a team and uniform orders are placed, no refund will be issued.
    3. If Spring Hill Sports, LLC is unable to field a team in a particular division due to lack of participants, a full refund may be given to participants signed up for that division.

    Summer Camp Refunds:

Soccer camp refund policy is slightly different from the standard season refund policy due to a dual partnership we have with our camp vendor(s).

    1. If a participant withdraws 30 days or more in advance, a full refund will be provided minus a $5 administration fee.
    2. If a participant withdraws day 29-15 before the camp, a 50% refund will be provided minus a $5 administration fee.
    3. If a participant withdraws day 14 to the day of camp, no refund will be issued.

  • How can my child be supported if they have additional needs?

Contact communications@springhillsports.com before the season to discuss the support your child may need to participate. We will discuss the request with you and explain what arrangements are available. Please use the designated private channel for sensitive information rather than a team group chat.

  • How can I volunteer?

Hawks depends on its community. Volunteer coaches generally commit to one hour of practice each week plus Saturday matches during the season. Concessions is also run by volunteers as a service to families, rather than as a profit-driving activity. Contact communications@springhillsports.com to ask about coaching or concession shifts. Qualified healthcare professionals may express interest in the Match Day Medical Team, which is under development; credentials, responsibilities and availability will be discussed separately.
